Getting farm accommodation before Gypsy Day

Gypsy Day is ingrained in New Zealand's farming culture. When June 1st rolls around dairy farmers and share-milkers move cows into stock trucks, pack up their homes and begin the moving process of herd, family and machinery to new farms. It's the annual migration of New Zealand's farming industry.

Moving cattle and equipment to a new location is a logistical nightmare, as is moving the family from one home, and potentially schools, to another. Many farming families struggle with the uncertainty of the move and the stress of packing everything up to begin again in a new location.

It's impossible to avoid all of the stresses that come with Gypsy Day, but there are a few things that can be done to minimise the stress and hassle ahead of time, so the day itself isn't as bad as it could be. This concept of getting ready ahead of time is echoed by DairyNZ Southland/South Otago regional leader Richard Kyte when he was interviewed by NZ Herald back in 2017 when he said that there is a school of thought that says January may be a better time for farmers and their families to move.

But as a farm owner there can be pressure to ensure that housing is up to scratch before new tenants move in, and the gap between occupants may be too small for all the work to be done in time.

That's why farm owners are looking to prefab farm homes to help ease the stress they experience ahead of Gypsy Day, and to also minimise the stress on current occupants as well as new. The good news is that it's still possible to have a brand new prefab home delivered before the oncoming Gypsy Day, thanks to a new range of Fast Farm Homes available through Genius Homes.

One of the major benefits of choosing a prefab home is that they are built, in their entirety, off-site. Which means no site disruption with builders, deliveries or inspections occurring when you're winding up to your busiest season. With many new homes typically requiring around 30 weeks to complete fabrication the window to have a new home before Gypsy Day is closing (or has already closed for some).

Recognising that many farm owners simply want good compliant and comfortable accommodation quickly and without fuss Genius Homes have created 2 pre-consented homes that are perfect for farmworker accommodation. Below we highlight these homes, and the standard inclusions you receive with each.

It's important to note that the quick timeframe for fabrication and delivery is based on the 'off the shelf' Fast Home variants being chosen and for alterations to be avoided. So, without further delay let's look at the homes that you can have ready in time for Gypsy Day.
